Smith (formerly known as Agent Smith) was once an agent who worked for the machines, and the enemy of The One. After being defeated by Neo, he became a rogue agent and self-replicated until he became a threat to both the Machines and humankind. Fortunately, Neo was able to defeat him. However, there were reports that remnants of the Smith virus has remained in the Matrix.
